Korea wins Men's Trios gold

26th October, Petaling Jaya: Korea's Kim Teckhan, An Seongjo and Seo Youngchun easily defeated host nation, Malaysia in the Men's Trios final to win their second gold medal of the 24th Deaflympics Bowling Competitions 2021.

In the first semi-final match against fourth-seed, Chen Chien-Hao, Lin Cheng-En and Hsieh Sheng-Fu of Chinese Taipei, the Korean top-seed suffered three splits in the second, third and fifth frames. The Taiwanese trio too had a split in the second frame but still led by 16 pins.

Kim, An and Seo fought back galantly with three strikes-in-a-row from the sixth frame and another four strikes in their last four shots to win comfortably, 209-184 and earned a shot at the gold medal in the final.

Malaysia's Mohd Firdaus Mohamad, Mohammad Syahmi Abd Hamid and Mohd Zaidi Awang breezed past second-seed of Vladslav Ialovega, Rostyslav and Vadym Danyliuk of Ukraine, 202-152 in the other semi-finals to face the Korean in the final.

With a crucial win in the semi-finals, the Koreans were full of confidence rolling three strikes-in-a-row from the third frame while the Malaysian trio had two open frames in the second and third. Korea kept their composure for the rest of the match as Malaysia had another open frame in the ninth.

The Korean men eventually sealed victory following the women winning the Women's Doubles gold yesterday. Korean men had settled for a silver and bronze in the Doubles and another bronze in the Singles on the opening day. Ukraine and Chinese Taipei were awarded a bronze medal each.

In the earlier qualifying round over two blocks of 3 games each, Korea overtook first block leader, Ukraine to clinch top spot with 3638 total pinfalls. Ukraine dropped to second with 3521. Malaysia was on fire in the second block to snatch third with 3501 while Chinese Taipei secured fourth spot with 3476.

The first trio of Saudi Arabia, who was fourth in the first block missed the cut by 23 pins to end in fifth position with 3453. After three events, An Seongjo of Korea is leading the Men's All-Events standings with 3765 from 18 games.

Doubles gold medallist, Hsieh Sheng-Fu of Chinese Taipei is second with 3589 followed by Singles silver medallist, Vadym Danyliuk of Ukraine in third with 3576. Korea's two gold medals has moved them into the lead of the Medal Tally including a silver and three bronze medals.

Chinese Taipei, Ukraine and Singapore who had a gold medal each, is in second, third and fourth respectively. En Ong Shin Ruenn, President of MSDeaf presented the medals to the winners and Mohd Yusri Abdul Ghani, Deputy President of MSDeaf presented the mascots.

The women will contest their Trios event over two blocks of 3 games each tomorrow. The top four finishers based on the total pinfalls will proceed to the Semi-finals shootout.
