National bowler wins Men's Singles gold

30th September, Petaling Jaya: National Podium squad member, Timmy Tan of Kuala Lumpur captured the Men's Singles gold medal at the 35th Interstate Bowling Championships ahead of Hafiz Zainuddin and Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin of Kedah taking the silver and bronze medals.

The reigning national champion, Muhammad Syazirol got off to a great start with 255 to take the early lead followed by Musayyar Bin Khalid of Sarawak in second and Megat Zaqrul Haiqal of Pulau Pinang third. Zaqrul quickly took over the running after adding a strong 232 in his second game.

Muhammad Syazirol slipped behind the leader by just 10 pins after a 202 game. Sarawak's Chong Jun Foo moved up to third, a further 11 pins away. 27th Asian Championships Trios gold and triple silver medalist, Hafiz Zainuddin fired a sizzling 277 in the third game to take over lead.

Megat Zaqrul dropped down to second, 19 pins adrift as Muhammad Syazirol dropped down to third. Hafiz added 238 and 234 in the fourth and fifth games to continue to lead the field. Tan picked up his pace with 264, 267 and 257 to leapfrog into second spot.

Despite ending with just 200, Tan was able to hold on to secure the gold medal with 1381. Hafiz managed only 183 to settle for the silver with 1375, just 6 pins apart. Muhammad Syazirol bounced back to clinch bronze medal with 1368.

Megat Zaqrul and four gold medalist at last week's 27th Asian Championships rounded out the top five with 1347 and 1330 respectively. The women will contest their Singles event later today.
