29th September, Petaling Jaya: The 46th Malaysian National and 35th Interstate Bowling Championships was officially declared open by Guest of Honor, Ybhg Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Mohammad Norza Zakria, President of Olympic Council of Malaysia and Vice President of Olympic Council of Asia at Sunway Megalanes.

A total of fifteen participating states from Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia comprising of 598 athletes and 37 team officials will be vying for honors in the next three days of competition commencing tomorrow.

Emcee, Ms Michelle Wong kicked of proceedings with the introduction of distinguished guests and dignitaries present at the opening. They included YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Mohammad Norza Zakria, YBhg Dato' Najeeb Abdullah, newly-elected President of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) and Mr Robert Lu, Senior Vice President of MTBC.

A minute of silence was observed to pay respects to the late Dato' Dr. P.S. Nathan, founder and former President of MTBC for 50 years, who passed away at the age of 90 last Monday, September 23. The emcee then announced the march past of the fifteen participating states in front of the distinguished guests and dignitaries.

YBhg Dato' Najeeb Abdullah delivered his speech by thanking YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Mohammad Norza Zakaria for finding time off his busy schedule to grace the opening ceremony. He also thanked all the states affiliates of MTBC for sending their full teams for this year's championships.

He was also extremely proud to informed all the Malaysia had their best-ever and history-making outing at last week's 27th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships by winning a record 8 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals. Malaysia also emerged as the Men's overall winner, Women's overall winner and Overall champion.

The last time any country has won 8 gold medals was Chinese Taipei in 2004 in which they won 8 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in Bangkok, Thailand. Nora Lyana Nastasia and Rafiq Ismail of WP Kuala Lumpur took the athletes oath on behalf of all players while Mr Maradona Chok took the oath on behalf of tournament officials.

YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Mohammad Norza Zakaria then gave his speech at the opening during which he thanked Dato' Najeeb Abdullah for inviting him to officiate the opening ceremony. He was pleased to know that Malaysian bowling continued to produce success after success more than four decades, both in Asian and in the world.

He hoped that with these successes, more and more aspiring athletes will take up the sport and continue to supply a pool of talents to maintain the level of competitiveness especially under the new leadership at the helm. He extended his wished to all participants the best of luck before declaring the championships officially opened.

A token of appreciation was presented to YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Mohammad Norza Zakaria by YBhg Dato' Najeeb Abdullah. A special Malaysian Book of Records award was also presented to Ms Sin Li Jane, a member of the Malaysian National Podium Squad and winner of four PWBA titles this year, the only Asian to have achieve this feat.

Her best victory was winning the USBC Queens Masters in July. She was also named PWBA Bowler of the Year 2024.

Sin also won the Doubles gold, Trios and Team of 5 silver, All Events gold and the Masters gold medals in helping Malaysia capped off a brilliant outing at last week's 27th Asian Championships in Bangkok.

Competition will kick off with the Youth Girls and Women Senior Singles 8.00am tomorrow, Youth Boys and Men Senior Singles at noon, Men's Singles at 4.00pm and Women's Singles at 8.00pm. Live scoring and live video streaming will be featured daily.
