Sarawak strikes first gold

28th September, Petaling Jaya: 2023 Malaysian International Open champion, Lavina Kho Jia Jie struck Sarawak's first gold medal of the 36th Interstate Tenpin Bowling Championships with victory in the Women's Singles ahead of Anis Hannani Binti Romzi of Johor in second and Nurul Anis Nabila of Kedah third.

Nurul Anis Nabila got off to a flying start with 235 in her opening game to lead Mia Zara Amanda Bt Khairul Azar of Perak by eight pins followed closely by Nur Atikah Binti Abdul Rahim in third, one pin further away. Anis Hannani, who shot 212 in her first game added 228 in her second to take over the running.

Nur Syazwani Sahar of WP Kuala Lumpur moved up to second after a superb 237 while Nut Ztikah remained in third. Anis Hannani continued to lead for the next two games after adding 202 and 254. Lavina Kho rolled back-to-back big games of 247 and 246 to leapfrog into second.

Nurul Anis Nabila and Nur Atikah shared third spot, 26 pins away. Another strong game of 248 saw the Sarawakian extended her lead to 38 pins. Anis Hannani retained second while Nurul Anis Nabila occupied third spot.

Despite ending with 197 in the final game, Lavina Kho sealed victory with 1314 to win the first gold medal for Sarawak. Anis Hannani earned the silver medal for Johor with 1298 and Nurul Anis Nabila clinched the bronze medal for Kedah with 1288.

Nur Hazirah Binti Ramli of Sarawak missed the podium by 51 pins after finishing fourth with 1237. The Youth Boys and Men Senior will take to the lanes for their Singles at 12:00pm. The Youth Girls and Women Senior will contest their Singles at 4:00pm and the Men will end the day with their Singles at 8:00pm.
