Sabah on a roll for third gold

29th September, Petaling Jaya: Sabah is on a roll as twins, Nurul Ayunni and Nurul Alyssa Binti Junaidi won a third gold medal in the Women's Double event of the 36th Interstate Tenpin Bowling Championships 2025 with WP Kuala Lumpur 1 and Sarawak 2 earning the silver and bronze medals.

The first WP Kuala Lumpur pair of Radin Nur Najwa Arifah and national squad member, Nur Syazwani Sahar fired a brilliant 533 in their opening game to lead Kedah's second pair of Tengku Aimilaily Binti Tengku Zahri and Nur Anis Snisya Binti Muhd Zafli by 63 pins in second.

The ex-national youths of Nurul Ayunni and Nurul Alyssa, who started with 448, added a superb 495 in their second game to take over the running. WP Kuala Lumpur 1 trailed the Sabah pair by 32 pins as Kedah 2 slipped down to third.

Sabah 1 continued to lead the pack after registering 424 and 474 in their next two games. WP Kuala Lumpur remained in second but slipped further away, 84 pins adrift. Despite ending the block with 382 and 358, Sabah 1 took victory and the gold medal with 2581.

WP Kuala Lumpur 1 reduced the gap to 22 pins but had to settle for the silver medal with 2559. The second Sarawak pair of Nur Hazirah Binti Ramli and Singles gold medalist, Lavina Kho Jia Jie, stormed home with back-to-back 414 in their last two games to snatch the bronze medal with 2536.

The second Sabah pair of Intan Qistina Binti Tamring and Siti Nurafiqah Binti Abdul Satal missed the podium by just nine pins after finishing fourth with 2527. Competition will shift to the Team of 4 event tomorrow over two blocks of three games each ending the three day Interstate Championships and will be followed by the qualifying rounds of the 47th Malaysian National.
