WP Kuala Lumpur, Sabah captures Team gold

30th September, Petaling Jaya: Shaqeem Izwan Teh, Ahmad Azriq, Muhammad Amin Syimir and Muhammad Hafiz successfully defended the Men's Team title at the 36th Interstate Tenpin Bowling Championships 2025 while Sabah picked up their fourth gold winning the Women's Team Gold.

Sarawak's Musayyar Bin Khalid, Abang Afiq Yazid, Tsen Fan Yew and Chong Jun Foo, led the first block of three games in the morning, got off the second block with a brilliant 943 but lost their lead to WP Kuala Lumpur's Shaqeem Izwan Teh, Ahmad Azriq, Muhammad Amin Syimir and Muhammad Hafiz rolled a record-breaking 1009 in their fourth game.

Pulau Pinang's quartet of Muhd Hariz Adlan, Muhd Adam Darwish, Muhd Aqil Faizal and Muhd Hariz Darwisy remained in third. WP Kuala Lumpur added another superb 975 in the fifth game to extend their lead 201 pins as Sarawak felled behind Pulau Pinang adter a poor 759.

Despite ending with just 801, WP Kuala Lumpur had the margin to spare and went on to win their second gold medal with 5243 pinfalls. Pulau Pinang made a last bid with a strong 972 in their sixth game but had to settle for the silver medal with 5213. Sarawak recovered with 884 to earn the bronze medal with 5097.


Men's Team gold medalists, WP Kuala Lumpur

Doubles gold medalist, Muhd Adam Darwish won Pulau Pinang's second gold medal after topping the Men's All Events standings with 4280. Izz Naqiuddin Putera of Negeri Sembilan and Singles gold medalist, Noor Hidayat took home the silver and bronze medals with 4225 and 4169 respectively.

Women's Team first block leader of Intan Qistina Binti Tamring, Siti Nurafiqah, Doubles gold medalists and twins Nurul Ayunni and Nurul Alyssa Binti Junaidi of Sabah had a scintillating start in the second block with 923 to extend their lead from 19 to 101 pins.

Sarawak's Lavina Kho Jia Jie, Nur Aina Kamalia Bt Abd Ayub, Nur Hazirah Binti Ramli and 2025 PWBA Rookie of the Year, Gillian Lim started with 886 to remain in second while Pahang slipped down to third from second in the first block.

Sabah rolled 774 and 885 to end the block with 4861 to win their fourth gold medal. Sarawak ended with 780 and 860 to claim the silver medal with 4741 while Terengganu's Faqlia Hafiefa, Syuhaidah Bt Zakaria, Nur Saadah Bt Mohd Zamri and Nut Atikah Binti Abdul Rahim sprang a surprise to clinch the bronze medal with 4651.

Pahang missed the podium by just four pins after finishing fourth with 4647. Favourites Selangor and WP Kuala Lumpur ended in a disappointing eighth and ninth positions.


Youth Girls Team gold medalists, Sarawak

Singles silver medalist, Anis Hannani Binti Romzi won Johor's first and only gold medal after topping the Women's All Events standings with 3959. Faten Najihah Bt Ahmad Faik of Pahang and Nur Hazirah Binti Ramli of Sarawak took home the silver and bronze medals with 3796 and 3788 respectively.

Selangor won the overall Women Senior division and overall Youth Boys division to emerge as Overall Champion with a medal haul of 5-4-2 and was awarded the PS Nathan Cup, named after the late Dato' Dr P.S. Nathan, founder and President of MTBC. Pulau Pinang won the overall Men division with 2-1-0 and Sabah the Women division with 2-0-0.

Sabah finished second overall with a medal haul of 5-1-4 and WP Kuala Lumpur overall third with 2-5-4. Sabah also picked up the overall Youth Girls division with 2-1-2. A total of 416 athletes from 15 states participated in this year's Interstate Championships from September 27 to 30.

The 47th Malaysian National qualifying rounds will commence tomorrow and will end on October 4. The Masters finals for the Youth division will be contested on October 4. The Graded and Open divisions will be held on October 5.
